Christ Church

124 Lord St, Southport PR8 1AA, UK – 01704 531756

Very good selection of speakers at Tuesday at Two and also very good musical events at Midweek Music. Excellent venue with Vivesco café for lunch before the events. These events are free with a requested donation.

Beautiful, welcoming old church

Holy Family R C Church

1 Brompton Rd, Southport PR8 6AS, UK – 01704 532613

Traditional RC church, small bench seats , ok when you are young. Typical acoustic reverberation of this type of church making sermons difficult to follow for people with less than perfect hearing. Otherwise a good church with a decent sized event room for functions.

Holy Family has beautiful internal architecture & decor -- stained-glass ("Jerry") windows; carved & painted wood Stations of the Cross; marble / stone alcoves & statues for both St. Christopher and the Virgin Mary, each accompanied by cherubim; marble/stone accents & ornate (gold?) Eucharist "tabernacle"; and detailed (carved ..Gothic-style?) wooden rear deco of the altar space... Classic -- and numbered, I noticed! -- divided pews with integrated (modern-cushioned) kneeling benches.. Being my first visit, I was unsure re parking, so instead of "street-side", I opted for the neighbouring parking lot (south of the church, entry on Manning Rd., before the junction with Brompton). The Priest was a kindly gentleman, and between himself & the primary Reader, the entire 11am service was clearly audible. The church was not full (plenty of parking-lot parking available, yet many just parked on the street), but there was a sizable congregation. Overall, a good experience, especially for the architecture & decor.

Southport, Leyland Road, Methodist Church

Leyland Rd, Southport PR9 9JQ, UK – 01704 628863

The right place to be and excellent people

An amazing revamped building hosts a friendly and welcoming community. The stone exterior and lovely ornate features inside are complimented by the warmth and reshaped interior which offers a comfort and quality seldom seen in a church of this age and size. One look at the notices or the webpage and you see the breadth of people who find a home here and the activities which help it live up to its strap line as 'Gods heart at the heart of community'.
